about
It Ain't You is about being disappointed by someone close. It's a back and forth struggle, eventually realising the person isn't who you thought they were but making peace with the whole situation, learning from your mistakes - "Either way I know that it ain't you.”
Produced and mixed by Anna Laverty at Melbourne’s Audrey Studios, It Ain’t You was co-written by Kaitlin, Anna and Hannah Joy from Middle Kids. “In July last year I did an APRA writing camp and on my first day I was placed with Hannah and Anna (dream team). I had some words/poetry written down from a while ago and sang them over a guitar part that Hannah came up with. From there, the song came together so quickly and easily.”
lyrics
Could you tell me that you’re sorry
Take a minute of your time
You’ll feel better I promise
Say goodbye to your anger and I’ll say goodbye to mine
Flashback to high school
You were my fucking idol
I can’t believe I wasted all my time on
For you to leave me here alone.
Try me in a week or so
When you’re not tired and I’m not tied up
It’s hard to not get fired up over you
And I can see it clearly now
In a different light curtains pulled aside
So I could see how life would look
From your sheltered point of view
It ain’t you, it ain’t you.
Took a while to get here
Standing in the truth
For the first time since I met you
I knew I was seein’ you
Try me in a week or so
When you’re not tired and I’m not tied up
It’s hard to not get fired up over you
And I can see it clearly now
In a different light curtains pulled aside
So I could see how life would look
From your sheltered point of view
Try me in a week or so
When you’re not tired and I’m not tied up
It’s hard to not get fired up over you
And I can see it clearly now
In a different light curtains pulled aside
So I could see how life would look
From your sheltered point of view
I gave you everything I had
I wish that I could take it back
Either way I know that
It ain’t you.
